The StageQ board of directors, along with the show’s creative team, have made the difficult decision to postpone the production of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert that was anticipated to premiere in April. StageQ is committed to prioritizing representation, safety, and meaningful opportunity on the stage. This decision follows a series of unfavorable and unforeseen circumstances that, coupled with the unexpected severity of the recent Omicron surge and the ripple effect that that brings, it became impossible to uphold all our goals and visions in this current COVID-19 climate, and we therefore have opted to make the difficult decision to postpone the production. We will revisit the feasibility of bringing this production to stage in a future season, using the lessons we have learned this year as a guide. This news is especially difficult to share, as this is the third consecutive prosecution StageQ has had to postpone.
We recognize that it was a risk to pursue a large musical during these uncertain times, but we wanted to create opportunity for those who had been missing musical theatre in the last two years. Unfortunately, our hopes for a stable and healthy winter were not born out. We do not regret taking this chance, as we know the importance of live theatre for many in our community.
Current ticket holders will receive an email from the Bartell Theatre box office about options regarding their ticket purchases.
The board and members of the production team are currently exploring new avenues for a potential event in mid-to-late April. We are still on track to host the inaugural CapitalQ Theatre Festival in June and are still working to reschedule Hir in this current season. We have also begun planning our 2022-2023 season. StageQ is still here and will continue to fight hard for our return to the stage. We are not going anywhere.
As always StageQ values community feedback. If you have questions, concerns, or opinions regarding this message, please do not hesitate to reach out to the board.
